2013 Fuenteseca Huerta Singular "El Maguey" Blanco Tequila (750ml)
Review Date: 08-01-2020
I mostly do wine, not spirits, BUT when there is something so unique and compelling like this single plot tequila from renowned Fuenteseca, I am all in. Very pretty aromas on this tequila of mandarin rind, guava and other tropical fruits. It's clean and polished with hardly any burn. The palate is all smooth, elegant fruit with a hint of spice--gorgeous! The best Blanco I've had in years.

2018 Kalinda Central Coast Chardonnay
Review Date: 05-15-2020
This 2018 Chardonnay is a classic rendition of the varietal, with notes of Honeycrisp apple, yellow pear, peach, and a creamy texture underscored by just a touch of sweet baking spice and a subtle nuttiness. If you're looking for your new house Chardonnay, look no further.

2016 Amici Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Review Date: 05-15-2020
Considering the caliber of talent going into this Chardonnay and the truly top notch fruit sources (Amici works with top growers throughout Napa and Sonoma), it’s difficult not to fall in love with this wine. It’s classic California coastal Chardonnay at its best—creamy, nutty, with fresh orchard fruits and a pleasant round weight on the palate. If you are looking for a great deal in California Chardonnay, look no further.

2018 Te Mata "Estate" Chardonnay Hawke's Bay New Zealand
Review Date: 05-14-2020
This Chardonnay is a marriage of two styles, both old school and modern. Some of the fruit is aged in barrel with traditional bâtonnage and malolactic fermentation, and another portion of the fruit is aged in stainless steel for a clean, light, pure-fruited expression. The two wines are then blended to form the final cuvée. A somewhat daring enterprise, the result is fantastic. The wine has the richness and nutty depth of a classic oak-aged Chardonnay, with the vibrancy and light, crisp body of a stainless steel-matured wine, all while reflecting the gorgeous fruit character of the best of Hawke’s Bay. It’s a perfect pairing with scallops in a simple butter sauce.

2018 Te Mata "Estate" Cabernet-Merlot Hawkes Bay New Zealand
Review Date: 05-14-2020
This is a thoroughly elegant Bordeaux-style blend with bright, boisterous blackberry and plum fruit, elegant structure, and a beautiful balance of elements, speaking to the unique climate and situation of these Hawke’s Bay vineyards. Matured in a mixture of new and used French oak barrels, the wine has the perfect structure to age gracefully for a decade or more, however beautifully it is drinking at present.

2018 Antucura Malbec Mendoza
Review Date: 05-14-2020
This is everything you’re looking for in this versatile varietal. It’s both hearty and bold with a fuller body and bright, ripe fruit flavors, without being at all tannic or overpowered by oak. The little kick of peppery spice on the finish makes this a very food-friendly wine. It’s big enough to stand up to a steak, and yet smooth enough to serve cocktail style with light appetizers or all on its own.

2019 Allan Scott Family Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Review Date: 02-17-2020
Looking for a new favorite New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc? This is a really lovely, zippy and bright wine with all the classic grassy, vibrant character you'd expect from Marlborough. The quality here is as good as many much more pricey bottles, and its' easy to see this as a new household staple.

2018 Clare Wine Co. Riesling Watervale South Australia
Review Date: 02-01-2020
If you love Riesling, add this one to your arsenal. Even if you don't love Riesling, give this a try. It's a delicately aromatic wine with just the right hint of sweet fruit on the palate. It's also lower in alcohol, which makes it almost too easy to drink. Add in an array of gorgeous stone fruits and citrus notes, and you have an easy winner.

2018 Matt Connell "Rendition" Pinot Noir Central Otago
Review Date: 02-01-2020
This is one of the best new Pinots I've tasted recently. Central Otago Pinot has a great savory edge, and here that's perfectly balanced against a beautiful fresh berry fruit profile. It's medium bodied with nice lift from the acidity and all the pieces are in perfect harmony. Looking for a new favorite Pinot? Buy now before the K&L Staff buys it all.

2014 La Source du Ruault "Clos de la Côte" Saumur-Champigny Rouge
Review Date: 10-04-2019
I am in general a big fan of Cabernet Franc, and this wine is one of the best recent bottles I've had. Source du Ruault is both organic and biodynamic, and the wines require a bit of patience. Thankfully for us, we've been able to source this older vintage to enjoy. At five years past harvest date, it's drinking beautifully. The stunning fruit is surprisingly generous for a Cabernet Franc, showing blackberry and red currant. It counters the bold structure of the wine quite well, and is accompanied by a whole slew of savory components: black olive, mushroom, cigar box and forest floor. As this wine continues to age you'll find even more elements coming into play, but it's already drinking beautifully.

2016 d'Arce, Côtes de Castillon
Review Date: 10-11-2018
Much as I loved the 2015 vintage of this wine, the 2016 is even better! A little more classically structured, with more restrained red fruit on the palate, this wine is a gorgeous example of the quality that Chateau d'Arce maintains, despite the inexpensive pricing. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a great Bordeaux in the $20 range.

2015 Tongue in Groove "Cabal Vineyard" Pinot Noir Waipara Valley
Review Date: 06-02-2018
Another great vintage from Tongue In Groove's Cabal Vineyard bottling of Pinot Noir. This is a brooding and savory Pinot with luscious dark fruit and earthy clay notes. Already developing beautifully, this wine has fine boned but firm tannin, good acidity cut, and an excellent medium weight on the palate. It shows an intriguing savory olive quality that marries seamlessly with the black plum and cherry notes. Well-integrated and showing perfectly at the moment!

2009 Coufran, Haut-Médoc
Review Date: 01-05-2018
This is an excellent Bordeaux from one of the top recent vintages, but coming from an under-the-radar winery in the Haut-Medoc. Chateau Coufran tends to use more Merlot in their blend, lending the wine some silky, black-fruited elegance which nicely counters the firmer structure and earthiness of the Cabernet from this region. Truly one of our best bargains for stellar 2009 vintage!

Ariston Aspasie "Réserve" (formerly Carte Blanche) Brut Champagne
Review Date: 12-22-2017
If you ask any K&L staff member for a champagne recommendation, this is most likely the bottle they will instinctively reach for. Why? Because this is the wine that time and again has graced our own tables, marked our celebrations, and found its way, more often than not, into our weekly wine diet. This is undeniably one of the best values for true champagne that we offer. The wine is both approachable and layered, with distinctive toast and brioche notes complementing the orchard fruit on the palate. Whether you need some bubbles for your dinner tonight, you want to gift a friend with something special, or you're celebrating with your family, you really can't go wrong with this wine. Enjoy with us!

Four Pillars "Faultline" K&L Exclusive Australian Gin (750ml)
Review Date: 09-29-2017
I am a big fan of Four Pillars, so of course I was excited to see this gin coming in, but what I encountered in this bottle both surprised and delighted me. Rather than jumping out of the bottle at you aromatically, this gin is a bit more subtle, highlighting sweet citrus and spruce notes and developing complexity as you let it sit on your palate. You may not think of gin in terms of sipping, but this would definitely work well for sipping with the complexity and smoothness it exhibits.

Antech Blanquette de Limoux Brut Nature
Review Date: 11-04-2016
I am a big fan of the Antech wines from Limoux. This bottling is one of my favorites! The Brut Nature is crisp, light, and citrus-tinged. If you are looking for a good party wine or a great appetizer/starter bottle, this is an excellent choice.

Boulard-Bauquaire "Trepail" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Vieilles Vignes
Review Date: 10-10-2016
Don't miss the two words "Vieilles Vignes" in the name of this wine. The lovely Blanc de Blancs of Boulard Bauquaire owes much of its complexity and depth to the 70-year-old vines from which the wine is made. Like a classic Blanc de Blancs, this wine shows elegant, stony aromas that are rather austere at first, but on the palate, the depth of flavor is phenomenal. Not only is there an impression of full, rich, apricot fruit and even some red berry elements, but the drive of the acidity takes a position here very well integrated to the whole. This wine is hardly lacking in body and richness, but it is not due to the boldness of a red grape, rather it is all in the old vine power.

Fallet-Dart "Grande Sélection" Brut Champagne
Review Date: 06-20-2016
For those of you excited about varietal character in your Champagne, this is a great wine! Showing plenty of red fruit from the Pinot Noir dominance, this wine is richer, with nutty texture and excellent follow-through on the palate. I generally lean towards Chardonnay-based Champagnes, but this wine might be changing my mind. The elegant Pinot Noir character shows through with such purity and finesse, it easily rivals the elegance of a blanc de blancs. I will definitely be stocking up on these!

Cut Spike Nebraska Single Malt Whiskey (750ml)
Review Date: 07-15-2015
The new Cut Spike is incredibly intriguing! This batch displays a full range of baking spices on the nose with just a hint of cardamom. Nice weight and balance on the palate, with just the right amount of creamy, toasty characteristics to complement the exotic spice elements. A great buy!

Ariston Aspasie Brut Rosé Champagne
Review Date: 02-04-2015
Lovely rose champagne from one of our favorite producers! With a pale coral color, this is a light bodied rose with hints of wild strawberry, vanilla, clove, and a gorgeous, creamy texture. Certainly one of my top rose champagne picks!

Ariston Aspasie Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne
Review Date: 02-02-2015
Elegance and complexity combine to make this an incredibly intriguing champagne. Delicate white flower and toasted almond/hazelnut on the nose give way to soft pear and a hint of vanilla on the palate. Gorgeous now, but I'm excited to see how this wine develops in the next few years!
