1983 Maison Charles Noellat Nuits St. Georges

Jasper Morris, MW writes: "The Noëllat tribe are abundant in this part of the Côte de Nuits. Two brothers, Charles and Ernest, flourished in the early part of the 20th century. Charles had a son, André, who died in 1941, and whose daughter Odile married Alain Hudelot, to form Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat in Vougeot. Domaine Charles Noëllat no longer exists since its purchase by Lalou Bize-Leroy in 1988."

1983 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

90 points Wine Spectator: "This is right up with the major-league 1983s. It is extremely full and concentrated, with a massive fruit structure. Inky color, very concentrated black currant nose, full-bodied, with tons of tannin, velvety fruit flavors and a closed finish. Truly excellent. (JS, Web Only-1989)" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My experience with this house is limited. One rarely sees this brand stateside. The 1983 is rich, full-bodied, well-colored, and complex." (01/1989)

1983 Dow's Vintage Port

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1983 is rich, concentrated, very fruity, and magnificently perfumed, suggesting that it is going to mature early, long before the 1977. (RP)" (01/1989) Jancis Robinson: "Mid crimson and slightly grey. Very sweet and round and slightly raisiny. Slight rustic edge but very ripe and round and lively with a certain freshness and punch. Long and powerful. Looking good for the future, A confident wine. ...

1983 Suduiraut, Sauternes (375ml)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This looks to be a good Suduiraut. A medium golden color, with a very honeyed, rich, floral bouquet... Sweet, with fine honeyed flavors, this is an elegant, graceful Suduiraut with plenty of character... (RP)" (01/1998) Wine Spectator: "Delicious and balanced, showing exciting earthy, white truffle flavors that add complexity to the honey and spice notes. Medium intensity. " (04/1995)

1983 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe

91 points Wine Spectator: "Dense and powerful with tobacco, cherry and vanilla aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and very firm with a long finish. Needs time. (JS)" (10/1994) K&L Notes: Praise from Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "Tasted several times, earthy and elegant in Jul-99. Tasted again in September 2004 at the Rhodes tasting. This is a very fine 1983: far superior on the nose to the 1988. Damson, mulberry and a touch of earth. Fine definition. Perhaps even a little mint leaf. The palate is well-defined with rounded, plummy damson fruit. Not complex ...

1983 Graham's Vintage Port

93 points Wine Spectator: "A superb achievement from a very underrated year. Deep dark ruby-purple, with rich floral and violet aromas, full-bodied, with masses of strawberry flavors, full tannins and a long finish. (JS, Web Only-1989)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than ...

1983 Jordan Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Spectator: "Fairly supple for an '83, with true Cabernet fruit and more than a hint of herbaceousness, but it's attractive and worth drinking this year or next." (07/1987) K&L Notes: "In 1983, we lost 25% of our crop due to “shatter”, which was triggered by a cold, rainy spring. The entire growing season was a battle for balance between crop size and canopy. Once bright with fruit and a soft, elegant finish, the 750mL is now fading from its glory years. In 2009 we still find supple texture and mild acidity, good for cheese parings." - Jordan Winer ...

1983 Warre's Vintage Port
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1983 Warre's Vintage Port (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop...they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1983 is richly perfumed and fragrant, which is so typical of the ports from this vintage, and is seemingly more forward than normal. (RP)" (01/1989)

1983 Rauzan-Segla, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Rauzan-Segla, Margaux (91RP, 90JG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fully mature, this has always been one of the best wines of the vintage. The stunning aromatics soar out of the glass, offering up notes of acacia flower intermixed with black currants, smoke, tobacco, and incense. A luscious texture in a beautifully concentrated but very pure, medium to full-bodied style displays layers of flavor as well as a seamlessness that is endearing if not compelling. The wine is a beauty and is the first vintage to signal the return of Rauzan-Segla to the ranks of quality Bordeaux chateau. (RP)" (01/2003)

1983 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (91RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at lunch at La Trompette. I have always had a soft spot for the Haut-Brion 1983 as one of the “friendliest” of the First Growths. Though not a top-tier Haut-Brion, the 1983 has developed a fine earthy, leathery bouquet that is similar to the ’86 but without the same vigour or complexity. The palate is very harmonious with a citrus-tinged entry, its lack of depth and length compensated by poise and tension. Sandalwood, cedar and a touch of truffle and smoke towards the finish. Lovely. A point. (NM)" (07/2010)
