Arran 10 Year Old Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

SKU #1020667 Whisky Advocate

Outer quote mark Launched in 2006 as the first mainstream Arran bottling with an age statement, it is sweet and malty on the nose, with fresh-planed wood and toffee apples. The palate is fruity, with ripe banana, honey, vanilla, coconut, and wood spices. Spicy orchard fruits and malt in the relatively long finish. Well-balanced and eminently drinkable at this age. The quality has improved since earlier bottlings. (GS, Fall 2018) Inner quote mark

K&L Notes

This is a special price on this fantastic single malt of Isle of Arran. The 10-year-old starts maturing in bourbon casks, of which Woodford Reserve is one of the sources. Then at Gordon Mitchell's discretion (the Distillery Manager at Arran) the whisky is moved to refill sherry bota, and for the last year of its life is finished in fresh sherry casks. It is medium amber in color and there is a lot of rich oil in the whisky. Crème brulee, caramel, citrus notes, fresh apple, and pear are apparent on the nose. The palate is creamy with elegance, and the lovely balance and complexity come through the nice, long finish. This is a beautiful dram and a great way to be introduced to the wonderful malts being created on the Isle of Arran! 46% ABV

This single malt is for those looking for a malt that does not have any smokey flavors. The Arran 10 year old is bright and refreshing and packed full of round juicy fruit flavors. It is pure with a nice balanced finish. Almost too easy to drink and like.

I often overlook this Single malt; it is easy to do when looking at our shelves, but after trying this recently, no more. This small independently owned distillery is new, just about 15 years old. Their entry level whisky should be in everyone’s liquor cabinet. Medium rich with a great blend of both Bourbon and Sherry barrels; this is a whisky with no edges. It as easygoing and comfortable as a broken-in lay-z-boy. Perfect for kicking back and forgetting about your day, it will not challenge you with its complexity but indulge you with caramel, crème Brule, heather and a touch of apple.
