2012 Talley Estate Arroyo Grande Pinot Noir

Also superb, as well as a serious value, the 2012 Pinot Noir Estate Arroyo Grande Valley is a medium-bodied, elegant and pure effort that yields notions of cherry pit, dried flowers, rose petal and damp earth. There’s not much to go around, but it’s refined, integrated and perfectly balanced, and will drink nicely through 2020. It spent 13 months in 20% new French oak prior to bottling. I was blown away by this latest set of releases from winemaker Brian Talley. Across the board, the wines have fabulous typicity, purity and class, and are some of the greatest expressions of the varieties coming out of California today. I can't recommend them enough. Note, the Bishop's Peak release comes from purchased grapes from a variety of Central Coast vineyards. (11/2014)

Vivid ruby-red. Fresh red berry and rose scents show impressive clarity and energy. Sweet, pure and elegant in style, offering lively raspberry and spicecake flavors and a seamless, silky texture. Shows excellent focus and alluring spiciness on the finish, with fine-grained tannins adding shape and gentle grip. This graceful pinot is already delicious. (12/2013)

*One Star* Not at all dissimilar to its attractive partner from the Edna Valley, this bottling earns the nod as the marginally favored of the two by dint of its slightly deeper fruit, its impressions of layering and its lack of finishing toughness. It hints here and there at dried herbs, sweet spice and cream, and, while it already teases with a few engaging glimmers of complexity, we anticipate that it will show a good many more as it broadens and blooms over the next three to five years. Dark red cherries, plums, cloves, leather and menthol all flesh out in the 2012 Pinot Noir Estate. Voluptuous and racy in the glass, the Estate is quite pretty and expressive. Crushed flowers, red berries and sweet spices meld together on the racy, silky finish. This fragrant Pinot is a good choice for drinking over the next few years. (7/2014)

Wine Enthusiast

The nose offers crushed cinnamon sticks sprinkled upon just-picked raspberries and squeezed plums. The palate brings heavier red fruits, approaching boysenberry and pomegranate juice, with a clove spice throughout. (12/2014)

Blend of Rincon & Rosemary vineyards aged on French Oak. Fresh black cherry, cola notes, a stem tinge, and a great earthy, mineral streak lend to the complexity and balance of this Pinot Noir. While delicious now, patience with this wine will be very rewarding!

Incredible growers and equally skilled winemakers, the Talley family has crafted another wonderful Estate Pinot Noir! Aromatically it displays red fruit, floral notes and lovely spice. On the palate it exhibits concentration and richness, while maintaining a level of poise and polish that is quite pleasing. Though lovely now, a few years in the cellar are recommended.
