2015 Brewer-Clifton Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay

SKU #1305308 92 points Jeb Dunnuck

The 2015 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills will be another terrific vintage and, while young, offers plenty of pleasure. Pineapple, citrus blossom, salty minerality and creamed corn all flow to a rich, beautifully textured, layered, young Chardonnay that’s going to benefit from short-term cellaring and have 10-15 years of overall longevity. Like all of Greg’s Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnays, it spent 10 months in neutral barrels. 92+ (7/2018)

The 2015 Chardonnay is reared in a neutral barrel, with no malolactic fermentation. It has a full-on expressive nose of fresh grapefruit, white peaches and clotted cream with hints of fresh ginger and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, the spicy citrus fruit explodes in the mouth with tons of energy and a racy backbone, finishing long and savory. (LPB) (9/2017)

92 points Vinous

The 2015 Chardonnay (Sta. Rita Hills) is a gorgeous appellation-level wine. Apricot pit, peach, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes nicely fill out the wine's ample frame. A hint of reduction on the finish adds a layer of nuance, but without overpowering the wine. This is a superb showing from Brewer-Clifton's largest-production Chardonnay. (AG) (9/2017)

92 points Wine Spectator

Refined and powerful, with concentrated flavors of green apple, ripe citrus and mineral that are deftly supported by fresh acidity. Hints of dried savory herbs show on the finish. Drink now through 2022. (KM) (6/2017)

Seared lemon peels, densely packed honeysuckle, Brie rind and white-ash aromas show on the nose of this appellation blend from the regional superstars, which recently became part of the Jackson Family of wines. The palate is tightly wound with grapefruit pith and a lemon spray-laced acidity that provides ample structure, carrying the slightest bit of riper stone fruit at the core. (MK) (12/2017)

This is not your typical California Chardonnay as it's racy and minerally, yet maintains fruit richness. All estate fruit from 3 vineyards in St. Rita Hills contribute orange blossom, lime zest, kiwi and mineral flavors and aromas. This sharply focused wine only sees neutral barrels and does not go through malolactic fermentation to keep this wine elegant and fresh. If you lean towards a more French style Chardonnay, I'd say give this one a shot!

The 2015 Brewer Clifton Chardonnay is expressive of the varietal's diversity, with 100% Estate fruit from three cool climate vineyard parcels. These sandy, loamy parcels contribute to the wine's acidity and saline minerality, which lend a zesty, stimulating quality to the palate. This is one California Chardonnay that doesn't go through any malolactic fermentation whatsoever, and is aged in only neutral barrels. As a result of this minimalist approach to winemaking, the wine doesn't show any oak influence, but manages to acquire a delicately viscous texture that maintains It's balance.

A beautifully focused, precise, powerful Chardonnay from Brewer Clifton. Hailing from the cool, ocean influenced Sta. Rita Hills, this wine shows a more linear style of CA Chardonnay. This doesn't have "butter" and I certainly wouldn't describe it as "oaky" however it is positively packed with crunchy orchard fruit, green apple, pear skin, blossom, quince. It's taught and racy rather than round and fat. The cool, coastal fruit energy dances on the palate with vivacity to spare. Chalky minerals make themselves known on the finish, this non-malo style tipping its hat to Chablis. Length for days, mouthwatering and refreshing. Perfect for white fish, scallops or crab. Awesome value.
