2013 Benanti "Rovittello" Etna Rosso

SKU #1353041 93 points Decanter

There are fragrant red fruits on the nose, which is still reserved. The attack is intense and sleek, with lifted red fruits and tannins that are assertive but polished. Spicy and linear, it’s also grainy and very persistent. Admirable purity here. (SB) (3/2018)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2013 Etna Rosso Rovittello is 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% Nerello Cappuccio from vineyards in the Contrade Dafara and Galluzzo in the Rovittello subzone of Castiglione di Sicilia. This is a beautiful wine from the Benanti family and one of my favorite wines of the bunch. The finish is silky and long, and this vintage exhibits a very concise and clear sense of aromatic and tannic precision. Elegant mineral tones appear on the long, silky finish. This was a difficult vintage, and the wine is more streamlined and sharp as a result. But it should hold well in your cellar. (ML) (8/2017)

91 points Wine & Spirits

Fruit for Rovittello comes from 90-year-old alberello-trained vines rooted on Etna’s north slope, where cooling winds preserve acidity in the grapes and give this wine a lean aspect. It rests for 18 months in large oak casks, keeping the floral-scented red-berry flavors pure and precise, the tannins firm and chiseled. (6/2018)

Bright red-ruby. Pungent floral nuances enliven red cherry and berry aromas and flavors. Bright and juicy with polished tannins on the long vibrant finish which features an aromatic but refined green nuance. A blend of mainly Nerello Mascalese with a little Nerello Cappuccio, from grapes grown at about 750 meters above sea level on the north slope of Etna. (ID) 90+ (9/2017)
