2015 E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône

SKU #1386075 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

As usual, the 2015 Cotes du Rhone features a majority of Syrah, largely sourced from the western side of the Rhône. Spicy, peppery, hickory aromas lead off, adding berries up front and then moving into darker fruit and more savory notes of black olive by the finish. This medium to full-bodied wine finishes long and silky, avoiding any of the vintage's hard tannins, while still boasting the concentration to drink well through at least 2023. (JC) (10/2018)

The 2015 Côtes du Rhône checks in as a final blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre. It offers a juicy, Syrah-driven bouquet of ripe blackberry fruits, smoked meats, pepper, and hints of underbrush as well as a rich, medium to full-bodied, polished style on the palate. It has ripe tannin, plenty of mid-palate depth, and as I wrote when I tasted it from barrel close to two years ago, it’s a beautiful Côtes du Rhône that will deliver the goods. (3/2018)

Brilliant ruby. Vibrant cherry and cassis aromas are complicated by licorice, violet and floral nuances. Sappy, gently sweet dark fruit flavors show very good energy, and a peppery nuance adds lift and spicy bite. Finishes smoky and long, with supple tannins sneaking in late to add shape. 90 points Wine Enthusiast

Ripe but restrained, fruity yet elegant, this richly concentrated red offers luscious black cherry and berry flavors nuanced by hints of earth, smoke and spice. The palate is rich and fleshy but anchored by taut acidity and a finely edged backbone of tannins. *Best Buy* (AI) (9/2018)

Jancis Robinson

Aged 18 months in oak foudres. 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre. Pepper, cedar, violet -- lots of perfume here. The Syrah is superbly fragrant and expressive, and it is filled out by rich red fruit from Grenache. Decent length, soft tannins, balanced acidity. Delicious liquorice aftertaste. Impressive as ever. Drink 2018-2021. (RH) (6/2019)

James Suckling

Very fleshy, plush and easy, red fruit with some blueberries and mixed plums. Abundant fruit here. The palate is fleshy, round and rich with raspberry and blueberry flavors and smooth tannins. A great vintage for this popular Côtes-du-Rhône. (8/2018)

Wine Spectator

Inviting, with a charming whiff of lavender amid the warm and fleshy cherry and plum compote flavors. Shows a light mesquite echo on the finish. (JM) (9/2018)

The E Guigal Cotes Du Rhone has been a staple in my every day wine drinking for as early as I can remember in my wine career, and the 2015 vintage is not only an outstanding value from a beyond exceptional vintage, it's the perfect gateway wine to anyone who has interests in the Rhone valley. Definitely worth checking out.
