2015 Gianfranco Alessandria Barolo

SKU #1405564 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2015 Barolo shows classic lines and a beautiful disposition that prizes bright primary fruit and Nebbiolo complexity, especially at this early stage in the wine's evolutionary trajectory. The wine is soft and fruit forward with an immediate drinking style that adds a pretty and accessible element to this straight-shooting Barolo. Here's one for that rib eye you've been waiting for. Drink through 2035. (ML) (6/2019)

92 points James Suckling

Sweet, fresh leather, vanilla and dried red-cherry aromas with nuances of tar and wild mountain herbs. The palate has a brisk, succulent feel with sweeping, sheet-like tannins wrapping the long finish. Drink this from 2022. (1/2019)

91 points Vinous

The 2015 Barolo is a very pretty wine, and also a rare straight Barolo in this vintage that is going to need at least a few years to come together. One of Piedmont's under the radar wines, Alessandria's Barolo has a track record of aging beautifully. I expect that will be the case here as well. Bright red cherry fruit, flowers, chalk and mint add aromatic intensity and brightness, while the typically bracing young Monforte tannins bring notable vivacity. (AG) (2/2019)

I've tasted many vintages of Barolo from this estate but this may be their best yet. Although Alessandria takes a more modern approach in the winery with shorter fermentation time and aging in small French barrels, the oak remains in the background and the fruit truly shines. His 2015 Barolo combines elegant, refined Nebbiolo fruit with a substantial tannic backbone and fine acidity. The wines of this estate are known for their longevity and we recommend cellaring this one for at least 2-3 years prior to opening.
