Once while out with friends I decided to order a dram of the ever popular Uigeadail with my dinner. I offered one friend a taste and they immediately followed with the note that "it tastes like an oil spill on the ocean", one which I will never forget. As I approached this glass that always lives in the back of my mind because Ardbeg is a personal favorite and has such a range of whiskeys and profiles. My first reaction is how sweet, soft and inviting the nose is with notes of fresh vanilla, baked scones, and clotted cream. Salted apple, baking spice and pie crust come out on the second and third wiff which makes me more excited for the palate. For it's proof this doesn't bit back at all, very warm clearly the palate is savory. spiced, and herbaceous like a roast. Salt and a bit of olive brine are present but fade quickly towards rich and round wood and with a lingering hint of smoked maple bacon. Ardbeg has always had my heart and palate, and this is a wonderful addition to their lineage!
