2015 Kurtz Family Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia

SKU #1427615 91 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Inky ruby. Lively, spice-tinged aromas of cherry and dark berries, joined by slowly emerging woodsmoke and floral nuances. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering intense blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that fan out slowly on the back half. Fine-grained tannins shape the very long, spicy finish, which shows very good clarity and lift. (JR) Inner quote mark (10/2017)

90 points Wine & Spirits

Outer quote mark There’s a silken texture to the tannins, and tight, fresh strawberry notes to the fruit, if you’re patient and give this wine plenty of air. It might start off reduced, inaccessible behind a scent of black rubber, but that dissipates with time as the tannins lengthen into spicy black-peppercorn notes. Decant it in the morning to serve at dinner with seared duck breast. Inner quote mark (2/2019)

K&L Notes

This wine is as classic as it gets for the Barossa. Situated in Light Pass, right in the heart of the region, Kurtz Family Vineyards grows some of the best full-bodied, deep-fruited Shiraz to be found in the Valley. The 2015’s generous fruit profile is well balanced by the punch of peppery spice and great texture on the palate. Big, rich and full, this wine is certainly one of the bolder expressions we’ve featured this year, and is a great bottle to return to for any richer meat dishes on your menu. It would pair particularly well with braised lamb, or pork.
