Xanadu has been on a hot streak over the last year. After winning the most coveted prize in Australia for their 2016 Cabernet, they have followed up with a 2017 Estate Chardonnay, which I have no doubt is the best they have ever made. This offers up an incredible bouquet of aromas with an array of white flowers, touches of lemon curd, and subtle spice notes. On the palate, this is all about big, rich, mouthwatering fruit that showcase a ton of powerful finesse. This is bold Chardonnay at its finest. Margaret River continues to be one of the best places in the world for Chardonnay, and Xanadu clearly deserves a spot as a marquee producer of the region.

A woody, citrus, tropical good time in a glass, this is more complex that most other offerings at the price point, with some serious flair, but also top tier drinkability. The sandalwood really pops out on the nose and gets a fun dancing partner in the lemon custard notes on the palate.

The nose of this wine is tropical, it’s full of pineapple aromatics and subtle toasty oak aromas. On the palate the wine shows good weight and a creamy richness while still having good acidity to add lift. The finish shows more complexity with hints of nutmeg, sandalwood joining with the tropical, toasty, lees filled character to give the wine a richer feel in more than one sense.
